KEYNOTE LECTURE BY LUDOVIC BERHARDT: ART SCENE IN ISTANBUL FROM AN ARTIST'S PERSPECTIVE

LUDOVIC BERNHARDT (b. 1975) is a French artist, living in Istanbul. His work focuses on the possibility of making images on the basis of pictures floating in the web. Pictures are like empty ghosts, without life. The internet pictures are radically lost inside the world-wide web : they are orphaned without presence. The paintings made on the basis of those images are particularly haunted by those ghosts. Riots, bomb attacks, nation maps, art icons – taken out of the web – are used like a political eruption. The zero degree of image - this bad and very low quality characteristic of the multiplicity of the web world wide – is questioned.
