Contemporary arts, based on an increasingly extensive basis, in separate ways from classical modern and exclusively open to surprises and experiments, continues to be produced in various directions, to be consumed and be put forward ideas. Contemporary art continuously renews itself -from new materials to different means of communication, from interactive works to computer games, from new approaches about place to perceptional paradigms and problems of city and nature in the millennium, from new subjects to manifests.
Along with this, biennales, galleries, auctions, advertisements, sponsorships, rewards and a heterogenic institutional base starting to form with scholarships and education system reaches to nearly all the world from big cities with art centres. Thus it can be said that as well as art history, art sociology is also has been the focus of critical view. This substantial world wrapping up artistic production within a line reaching from financial difficulties to intellectual independence of artist has a central role in the history of contemporary art by sometimes comprising, sometimes taming the alternative production channels.
Curatorship, criticism and theory may have never been in such transparent and nested relationship with artistic production. Contemporary art, with all its wrapped dimensions, confronts us everyday with new agenda and disputes.
In the new millennium, new questions and new answers need to be produced for this complex motion deserving emphasize on every curve. CONTEMP ART '12, opens its doors to styles and approaches produced by artists from different geographies, identities and tendencies as well as to institutions, intellectual dimensions and roots as part of general layout of contemporary arts since 1960s.
With a critical perspective and theoretical creativity, CONTEMP ART '12, will be arranged by DAKAM (Eastern Mediterranean Academic Research Center) by the hostage of MSFAU (Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University) between the dates of 11-14 April 2012.
